The DevaCurl Philosophy
Before DevaCurl, curly hair was treated like a problem to flatten. Lorraine Massey changed that in 1994 with the Devachan salon in SoHo and the book Curly Girl: The Handbook, which codified the Curly Girl Method (CGM): no sulfates, no silicones, no harsh alcohols, and styling on soaking-wet hair with conditioner and gel. Every DevaCurl product in this collection is built to that standard. The line was fully reformulated in 2020 — what's on shelf today (and on this page) is the modern, dermatologist-tested range.

How to Build a DevaCurl Routine (Curly Girl Method)
- Cleanse: No-Poo (drier/coarser) or Low-Poo (need more cleansing). Once a month, swap in Buildup Buster.
- Condition: One Condition Original, distributed root-to-tip with fingers or a Denman D3, then rinse upside-down leaving a film behind.
- Style on soaking-wet hair: Plumping Primer first (optional, for volume) → SuperCream for moisture → Ultra/Supreme/Light Defining Gel for hold. Scrunch, don't rake.
- Dry: Plop in a microfibre or cotton t-shirt, then air-dry or diffuse on low heat/low speed.
- Refresh between washes: Mist of Wonders spray + a pea of SuperCream, scrunched into dry curls.
- Weekly: Melt Into Moisture mask in place of conditioner.

Is DevaCurl Curly Girl Method approved?
Yes. DevaCurl invented the Curly Girl Method. The current line is sulfate-free, silicone-free, and paraben-free.
I heard about a DevaCurl lawsuit — is it safe now?
In 2020 DevaCurl faced a class-action lawsuit alleging hair damage from certain pre-2020 formulas. The case was settled, and DevaCurl fully reformulated the entire line in 2020 with new ingredients, dermatologist testing, and a removed-fragrance program. Everything we sell at Eastern Beauty Supply is the current, post-reformulation formula.
Has DevaCurl been discontinued?
No. DevaCurl is fully active under Henkel ownership and continues to launch new products (Mist of Wonders, Frizz-Fighting Foam, WaveMaker are all post-2023 releases).
Which DevaCurl product is best for fine curly hair?
Low-Poo + One Condition (used lightly) + Plumping Primer + Light Defining Gel or Frizz-Fighting Foam. Skip SuperCream — too heavy for fine strands.
Which DevaCurl gel has the strongest hold?
Supreme Defining Gel (heaviest, for coarse/coiled hair), then Ultra Defining Gel (strong, all-purpose), then Light Defining Gel (soft, for waves).
What's the difference between No-Poo and Low-Poo?
No-Poo has zero lather and is the gentlest — best for very dry, coarse, or tightly coiled hair washed less than weekly. Low-Poo has a mild lather — better if you wash more often, use heavier stylers, or have a scalp that feels oily between washes.
Do you carry Arc Angel, B'Leave-In, Heaven in Hair, or Styling Cream?

What is a Deva Cut?
A Deva Cut is a dry-cutting technique developed by Devachan stylists where each curl is cut individually in its natural pattern (dry, unstretched) rather than wet and tensioned. Eastern Beauty Supply sells DevaCurl products to support Deva-cut hair at home — for the cut itself, book with a Deva-certified stylist in your city.
Is DevaCurl made in Canada?
No — DevaCurl is a US brand (NYC-founded, owned by Henkel) sold in Canada through authorized retailers including Eastern Beauty Supply. We ship from Ontario.
